Just like Darrelle Revis before him, Stevan Ridley leaves the Patriots for the Jets this offseason.

Another former Patriot is becoming a Jet.

Stevan Ridley is crossing the AFC East rivalry and joining the Jets, just like Darrelle Revis did earlier this offseason, according to sources. He’ll sign a one-year deal, according to a source. Ridley visited the Jets last week.

“Love New England, Love my former teammates, and I’m truly thankful for the opportunity the Patriot’s organization has blessed me with,” Ridley wrote on Instagram. “However it’s #ontotheJETS.”

The ex-Patriot joins Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell in the Jets backfield. Ridley was a somewhat unexpected option when the team’s interest in him materialized, given that on paper he doesn’t really complement Ivory. The Jets could use a speed back that can catch the ball, and Ridley does not bring either of those skills to the table.

However, what he does offer is experience and past success: in 2012 he carried the ball 290 times for 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns. Ridley wasn’t used as much in 2013 and tore his ACL in October of last year.

Ridley, 26, was a third-round pick by the Patriots in 2011.

The Jets declined an option on Chris Johnson earlier this offseason, effectively opening the spot that Ridley will fill. Daryl Richardson, who was on the practice squad last year, is also on the roster.
